Kampala Parents teachers end strike after Sudhir meeting

The administration of Kampala Parents School led by it’s owner, Sudhir Ruparelia reached numerous resolutions with the staff at the school bringing a three day strike to an end.

Public backlash was directed at this school following numerous concerns of the staff’s welfare prompting immediate concern and solutions.

After a meeting held yesterday it was agreed upon by the school’s stakeholders and staff to end the sit-down strike. Classes are now slated to commence today 27th November. End of year exams will then be done between 28-29th November.

“We, the staff, both teaching and non-teaching staff of Kampala Parents’ School 2004, hereby inform you, our dear parents, that the sit-down strike that has been going on since Friday last week has come to an end,” the letter addressed to parents and guardians read on Tuesday.

“After a series of meetings and interactions with different stakeholders, our grievances have largely been attended to for those that were short term and good strategies laid for those that were long term,” a statement from the staff representatives partially read.

The school’s hierarchy appreciated parents who have been supportive and understanding during this brief turbulence the school has been going through.

“We continually thank you for understanding and standing strong with us as we requested to be heard. We can only thank you enough for teaching and nurturing your children even more,” the letter added.

This meeting yielded several positive results for the striking staff such as salary increments, no more salary deductions among other resolutions.

Some of the summarized resolutions include:-

  1. Salaries to be enhanced starting Jan 2025
  2. No more salary deductions (they have been illegal)
  3. No staff to be suspended or sacked because of the strike
  4. No more teaching on Saturday
  5. Teachers to go back to class tomorrow
  6. Staff to educate one of their children at the school for just 700k.

Kampala Parents chairman Sudhir ordered the school’s administration to not let issues such as this get into the media as it damages the school’s reputation which is it’s highest honor. Therefore teacher’s grievances should always be treated as a priority whenever they arise.

Mr Welcome Chrispinus, Mwijukye Ambrose, and Orishaba Onesmus who were the staff representatives thanked parents who stood by them in this strike and even actively participated in it. They promised that they are now going to get back to work with renewed energy.

The parents who are the biggest state holders in the school thanked tycoon, Sudhir for acting swiftly to address these challenges.
