Kampala businessman Godfrey Kirumira has threatened to auction property belonging to the Democratic Party (DP) over accumulated rent arrears.
The revelation was made by party member Fred Mukasa Mbidde, who said the property in question includes a multipurpose printing machine housed in one of Kirumira’s commercial buildings on Nkrumah Road.
According to Mbidde, DP’s top leadership had earlier agreed to rent out the machine to one of their members, who was supposed to pay Shs4 million monthly. However, he has since failed to meet his rent obligations, leaving the party unable to pay Kirumira.
As a result, the city tycoon is reportedly considering seizing and auctioning the machine to recover his money.
The development adds to the financial struggles facing Uganda’s oldest political party.
