Uganda Police Issues Traffic Advisory Ahead of CHAN 2025 Kickoff

The Uganda Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, scheduled from August 2 to 29, 2025, to manage the expected surge in road activity across Kampala, Entebbe, and match and training venues.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura warned of heavy congestion along critical routes, including the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway, the Northern Bypass, and roads leading to Mandela National Stadium (Namboole). He emphasized that motorists should plan ahead, avoid peak hours, and expect delays during match days.

Key Venues and Travel Routes

All tournament matches will take place at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole), while training sessions are scheduled at Wankulukuku Stadium, KISU Grounds (Bukoto), FUFA Grounds (Kadiba–Mengo), Kyambogo University Playground, and Namboole Annex.

Teams and officials will arrive via Entebbe International Airport and be transported to top hotels like Speke Resort Munyonyo, Serena Hotel, Mestil Hotel, Skyz Hotel Naguru, and FUFA Hotel Kisaasi. The routes designated for their movement have been strategically planned and will involve motorcade priority and intermittent road closures.

Traffic Diversions in Effect

Several diversions will be enforced, especially to manage heavy truck traffic:

* In Naalya, trucks will be redirected to Kyaliwajjala–Ssonde.
* At Seeta, they will be rerouted toward Namugongo.
* Kinawataka will prohibit truck access to Kireka.
* Roads around Bweyogerere will be rerouted via Kinawataka Road near Jokas Hotel.
* Kireka Trading Centre will be off-limits to vehicles from Hared Petrol Station, and the Kireka–Jokas stretch will be limited to pedestrian use.

Parking Controls and Access Requirements

* VIP parking at Namboole will be reserved exclusively for accredited vehicles on the stadium’s southern wing.
* General parking will be coordinated on site by traffic police.
* All vehicles entering match or training venues must display official accreditation.

Safety Measures and Public Guidance

Uganda Police will heavily deploy officers along all major routes and event zones. Team convoys will be escorted, and violations of guidelines will not be tolerated. Motorists are urged to:

* Follow all instructions from traffic officers.
* Plan their journeys in advance.
* Stay patient, courteous, and cooperative.
* Avoid restricted areas unless explicitly authorized.

Kananura reiterated Uganda’s preparedness to host the continental event and extended a call for public cooperation: “Let’s support CHAN 2025 and show Africa Uganda’s hospitality,”he concluded.

This advisory is essential information for anyone travelling in and around Kampala and Entebbe during CHAN 2025. Plan ahead, comply with traffic regulations, and help showcase Uganda’s readiness and hospitality.
