The Resident City Commissioner for Rubaga Division, Anderson Burora, found himself suspended over his recent attacks on Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among. This decision came abruptly on Thursday, conveyed by Hajji Yunus Kakande, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President.

Burora’s suspension stemmed from his relentless criticism of Speaker Among’s lavish spending, which he voiced on his social media platforms. The Speaker’s extravagant expenditures had sparked widespread discussion on social media for over two weeks.

Notably, it’s reported that Among’s meeting with President Museveni earlier in the week likely influenced Burora’s suspension, as she may have raised concerns about his relentless attacks on her and Parliament.

In a twist of events, the opposition shadow cabinet, along with rebel MPs, had demanded Among recall the House from recess to address pressing issues, including corruption allegations spotlighting Parliament. Succumbing to mounting pressure, Among obliged and recalled the House.

Burora’s suspension added to a recent trend, as he became the second Museveni RCC to face such action within two weeks. Waiswa Paul Bweni Bwa Mwiko of Luuka district was suspended earlier for his involvement in an assault incident captured in a viral video.

Burora, who previously served as the Nakawa Division RCC before being reshuffled to Lubaga within Kampala in 2022, expressed his frustration, questioning the disparity between the strict enforcement of tax compliance by URA and the perceived mismanagement of taxpayer funds by certain officials.

As Parliament prepared to reconvene amidst these tumultuous events, Uganda found itself grappling with questions of accountability, governance, and the consequences of speaking out against perceived injustices.
