The Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) movement, led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the senior Presidential advisor on Special Operations, has rebranded to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
The launch took place in Naguru, a suburb of Kampala, attracting hundreds of attendees, including over 50 members of parliament and ministers. Former minister Capt Mike Mukula represented Muhoozi at the event.
Identifying themselves as “supporters and defenders of General MK,” the attendees represented a diverse group of Ugandans rallying behind Gen. Muhoozi, the former commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).
A significant number of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament from various regions attended the launch, indicating widespread support.
Micheal Mawanda, from the Central Executive Committee (CEC), highlighted the origins of the MK movement, stating that it began in April 2022 as a spontaneous and diverse group rallying behind Gen. Muhoozi. He announced the rebranding, stating, “We the MK movement hereby constitute ourselves into a civic organisation and assume and adopt a new identity as Patriotic League of Uganda.”
He emphasized that PLU is non-partisan and committed to mobilizing Ugandans to fulfill their civil duties for the benefit of society.
During the launch, the PLU retained its colors, with yellow being dominant, along with red and black. The symbol of PLU is a lion.
