Apac Municipality incumbent MP Hon. Patrick Ocan and his closest challenger in the 2026 race, Hon. Maxwell Akora Ebong, the MP for Maruzi County, made generous contributions to support UPC party delegates during a meeting held on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Akora, who is seeking to unseat incumbent Apac Municipality MP Patrick Ocan, contributed UGX 4.4 million, sparking jubilation among UPC structural delegates. His contribution covered the cost of the venue, seating and public address system, refreshments, and allowances for delegates. In contrast, the host, Hon. MP Patrick Ocan, contributed only UGX 2 million for the same meeting held in his constituency.

Akora affirmed that the UPC remains strong in Apac, the Lango sub-region, and the greater northern region. He also emphasized that UPC party president Hon. Jimmy Akena would contest in the upcoming presidential election.

In a heated meeting held at True Love Baptist Church, Arocha Division, Apac Municipality, at least 990 UPC leaders under various structures rallied for party unity as they prepare for a landmark UPC primary election between incumbent MP Ocan and Akora Maxwell, who has officially crossed to the municipality ahead of the race.

Meanwhile, David Ojok Zulu, the Apac UPC Chairperson, cautioned party leaders against internal conflicts and expressed concern over members supporting rival parties. He emphasized the importance of unity within UPC.

Zulu highlighted the significance of grassroots mobilization and advocated for door-to-door campaigns instead of divisive politics. He urged constituents to elect capable leaders who will advance the party’s agenda. He further noted that the UPC intends to field several parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections and warned against double standards, as some members have been promoting UPC policies through rival parties.

Zulu also expressed disappointment over the discord between MP Ocan and the Apac District’s Female Parliamentary Representative, citing a lack of adherence to party regulations.

Tonny Ogwang, the UPC Chairperson for Apac Municipality, welcomed new leaders and urged them to uphold the party’s constitution, especially during the primary elections. He reiterated that the UPC constitution allows members to contest for any position of their choice, provided they follow the party’s primary process.

Ogwang appealed to supporters of both Akora and Ocan to remain united and avoid divisiveness. He stated that the party would endorse either Ocan or Akora as its official flag bearer following the primaries.

“We won’t tolerate saboteurs. This election will prove UPC’s strength in the Lango sub-region,” asserted David Zulu, directing criticism at leaders allegedly undermining the party.
