The Amuru Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Odong Latek has informed this publication that he is currently on an official 30-day leave, despite claims by MP Olanya Gilbert of Kilak South County that Latek is out of office and attempting to evade scrutiny by suggesting he is suspended.

Latek refuted allegations made by outspoken Kilak South County MP Hon. Olanya Gilbert and Dr. Odonga Otto, the former Aruu County MP in Pader District, that he should be investigated for the death of Amuru DVO Dr. Samuel Ochora. Latek clarified his status while speaking to The Ankole Times newspaper today from his home village of Omoro over the phone.

Latek explained that his scheduled leave was supposed to be taken last year but was deferred by the Office of the President. He emphasized that he is currently benefiting from his leave comfortably.

Odonga informed this publication that Latek was directed to step aside following the transfer of the Amuru DPC to Naguru. The DISO of Amuru was also instructed to vacate their office.

Odonga stated that the demonstration, which was scheduled to take place yesterday, has been called off by him and Kilak MP Hon. Gilbert Olanya.

Earlier, the police had summoned MP Olanya Gilbert to record a statement for allegedly inciting mourners during Dr. Samuel Ochora’s burial. However, at 1:40 PM, Olanya Gilbert confirmed that Latek had handed over the office to the deputy RDC.

Acham Proscovia, the Amuru Deputy RDC, did not confirm to our reporter when contacted as she stated she was engaged in a meeting.

The Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, was unavailable to confirm or deny the situation to our reporters as she did not answer our phone call by press time.
