MTN Uganda’s corporate social responsibility arm, MTN Foundation, has unveiled the 25 projects chosen for the inaugural MTN Changemakers Initiative, a program aimed at creating a lasting impact on various sectors in Uganda. This initiative, designed to focus on youth, women, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities, reflects MTN’s 25-year legacy of community involvement and its belief in collaborative efforts to drive change across the nation.
The MTN Foundation has committed Shs500 million to this initiative, aligning with its core focus areas, which encompass economic empowerment, education, health, water, and environmental sustainability.
These 25 projects cover five sub-regions, ensuring widespread support and positive change across the country. The sub-regions include the Northern Sub-region (West Nile, Lango, Acholi, and Karamoja); Eastern Sub-region (Busoga, Teso, Bugisu, and Bukedea); Greater Central Sub-region (Luwero, Mpigi, Masaka, and Mukono); Central Sub-region (primarily Kampala); and the Western sub-region (Kigezi, Bunyoro, Ankole, and Tooro).
Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda, commended the selected projects for their potential to drive positive change within their communities, emphasizing MTN’s commitment to empowering individuals and organizations dedicated to community transformation.
Mulinge also invited organizations to collaborate with MTN to collectively achieve community goals and aspirations.
Brian Mbasa, Senior Manager at MTN Foundation, outlined the project’s implementation timeline, indicating that it will run from November 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. The implemented projects will be profiled in the first quarter of 2024.
The MTN Changemakers Initiative, launched in July, aims to empower local individuals and organizations committed to making a significant difference in their communities. Over the past decade, MTN Foundation has invested Shs.30 billion in over 250 projects, spanning various focus areas, including health, education, water and sanitation, and youth empowerment, catalyzing positive change and strengthening communities nationwide.
