Phillip Munaabi the secretary of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) has made his intentions clear and it seems he wants the top office of the organization.
During a political talk show on a local TV station, Munaabi made it clear that he’s the Ssemakadde ULS needs.
It should be noted that the public was shocked a few days ago after ULS president Isaac Ssemakadde was suspended by the ‘association’ over following various accusations of misconduct and mismanagement.
This decision taken by the majority of ULS members was reached upon after the failure of Ssemakadde to apologize for the accusations labeled against him. In the signed document which expelled Ssemakadde and his deputy, Anthony Asiimwe, it was stated that they were “restoring public trust and confidence in the ULS and safeguard its reputation.”
Meanwhile, the duo were also accused of conspiring to handle financial matters, that included online bank approvals without Council knowledge or approval. An interim committee was created there and then to lead the ULS led by Munaabi.
But in a twist of events, Ssemakadde also convened a meeting that suspended Munaabi until 17th December when a general meeting will be held. This has clearly indicated a power struggle in the association. Apparently Munaabi seems bent on usurping his president as he stated on live TV.
“The Uganda Law Society should understand that I am the type of Ssemakadde they need. I am the secretary, we have never convened any meeting. I issued a notice; I drafted a notice to call for the AGM, shared it with the council, and all that has been shelved.”
Munaabi also faulted the self-styled legal rebel for failing to provide able leadership yet it’s one of there core fundamentals. Furthermore, he denies that what he attempted was a coup, it was rather a statement to Ssemakadde that his leadership has failed and he should step aside.
