Wednesday, May 8, 2024

The Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, has urged residents in the Busoga sub-region to actively participate in the upcoming National Population and Housing Census, scheduled to commence this week.

Set to take place on May 9th and May 10th nationwide, the census holds crucial importance as it provides essential data for planning and program implementation not only within Busoga but across the entire country.

Emphasizing the significance of accurate census results, the Kyabazinga encouraged his subjects to remain in their homes on the census night of May 9th to ensure they are counted.

The call for participation came during a meeting held on Monday at the Kyabazinga’s Igenge Palace in Jinja City, where he hosted a team from the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), led by Executive Director Chris Mukiza.

Accepting the role of champion for the census exercise in Busoga, the Kyabazinga reiterated his call for residents to cooperate with enumerators and respond positively to their inquiries.

Enumerators, equipped with tablets, will gather information digitally, marking a shift towards a more efficient and accurate data collection process.

The census will cover various aspects including population demographics, living conditions, assets, and access to essential services such as healthcare and education.

Assuring confidentiality, Mukiza emphasized the security measures in place to safeguard the data collected during the census process.

Despite financial challenges, Mukiza disclosed that the central government has allocated 320.3 billion Ugandan shillings for the successful execution of the national census.

The meeting, attended by various stakeholders including UBOS officials, Busoga Kingdom ministers, local government representatives, and community leaders, underscored the collective effort to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive census in Busoga.
