NRM Registrars in Rukiga District Speak Out Against Post-Primary Neglect

The Ankole Times

Registrars at the sub-county, Parish, and village levels in Rukiga district have decried being left out by the NRM Party after the party primaries. They revealed this yesterday during a one-day training of Registrars and District Executive Committee Members (DEC) held in Muhanga town council in Rukiga district.

The registrars, led by Mrs. Hope Kiconco, said that one of the challenges they are facing is transportation of party properties from one place to another due to high transport costs. They added that after party primaries, they are left out, yet they play a big role in the party.

Asiimwe Jackson Rwamwehare, who is the NRM Administrative Secretary, warned that the registrars have been mishandling the registers. He also warned them against taking registrars to bars, getting drunk while on duty, and registering non-Ugandans.

The Rukiga district registrar, Yaryakumanyi Serubowa Twaha, said that he chased most of the registrars at the village level who failed to execute their task.

Hon. Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi, who doubles as the Rukiga district NRM chairperson, was leading the training and challenged the locals to embrace the NRM registration. She further urged the registrars to execute their work without political interference.

Alex Ndamurira, Rukiga district’s publicity secretary, used the opportunity to rally the public to embrace the ongoing NRM registration.
