The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has initiated a substantial transfer of 39 state prosecutors to various duty stations across Uganda. This shake-up, detailed in a press statement by DPP’s spokesperson, Ms. Jacquelyn Okui, involves staff at different ranks, including 13 Assistant Directors of Public Prosecutions (ADPPs) who will now oversee Regional Offices.
The purpose of these transfers, as stated by Ms. Okui, is to enhance staff versatility, provide new opportunities, and ultimately serve the public interest. These changes are anticipated to improve coordination and communication between the head office and field stations, particularly the supervision of Resident State Attorneys (RSAs) and Resident State Prosecutors (RSPs).
The transferred Assistant DPPs will assume their new roles on April 2, 2024. The redistribution of personnel aims to optimize service delivery efficiency and effectiveness within the ODPP.
The list of transfers includes prominent individuals such as Florence Akello, Richard Okello, and Alex Bagada, among others, who will take up leadership positions in various regions. Additionally, other staff members have been reassigned to different roles and locations to bolster the ODPP’s operational capacity.
Furthermore, key changes involve the appointment of Joseph Kyomuhendo as the Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division and the reassignment of Dr. Daisy Nabasitu from study leave to the Land Crimes Department.
The shuffle extends beyond Assistant DPPs to include Senior State Attorneys (SSAs), State Attorneys (SAs), and Senior State Prosecutors (SSPs). Notable movements include the relocation of Jackline Kyasimire to Ntungamo as a Resident Senior State Attorney (RSSA), and the transfer of Jean Nareeba to Gulu as a Senior Attorney (SA).
Several staff members have been reassigned to different Anti-Corruption Divisions (ACDs) and regional stations, highlighting the ODPP’s commitment to optimizing resource allocation and operational effectiveness.
