NRM Treasurer Oundo Nekesa and her husband, Hajji Suleiman Mafabi Lumolo, shared chilling details of their ordeal during a recent robbery in which over 2 billion Ugandan shillings were stolen. Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony in Busia town, the couple recounted how the robbers, in a well-coordinated operation, swiftly breached multiple doors leading to their bedroom in under 10 minutes.

According to Mafabi, who owns Kampala Mordenity Car Bond, the assailants demonstrated remarkable skill and efficiency, donning masks to conceal their identities as they forcibly entered the couple’s residence.

Nekesa, a prominent figure in Busia’s political landscape, described her desperate attempts to reason with the intruders, pleading for her life and emphasizing the potential impact on her children if any harm befell her. Despite her pleas, the robbers remained focused solely on retrieving the money stored in the safe.

The couple expressed gratitude that physical harm was avoided, with the attackers adhering to their directive to refrain from violence. However, they lamented the apparent failure of their security guards to respond effectively to the intrusion, as the assailants had disabled security alerts beforehand.

Nekesa also addressed the distress caused by malicious gossip spread on social media following the incident, highlighting the potential repercussions on her family, particularly her children. She used the occasion to thank the community and government for their support in the aftermath of the robbery.

The robbery, which occurred on December 5, 2023, at their residence in Kyeyitabya Bukasa Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala district, resulted in the theft of 2.2 billion Ugandan shillings. Twelve suspects, including four police officers, have been charged in connection with the aggravated robbery, with investigations ongoing.

Hajji Mafabi, reflecting on the incident, expressed relief that while money can be recovered, his wife’s safety was paramount.
