A somber atmosphere enveloped the home of Rtd Gen Al-Haji Moses Ali, Second Deputy Prime Minister, and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, as hundreds of mourners gathered on January 9 to pay tribute to his late wife, Mrs Sarah Ali. Mrs Ali passed away on January 8 at Medipal Hospital in Kampala.
Adjumani District Health Officer, Dr. Dominic Drametu, informed mourners that Mrs Ali had experienced body swelling while attending to Gen Moses Ali in Turkey. After being diagnosed with kidney disease, one kidney failed to function entirely, while the other operated at half capacity. Dr. Drametu explained that she received medical treatment in Turkey and continued at Nsambia Hospital upon her return to Uganda. Despite planning a kidney transplant in India, complications, including an infection, arose, delaying the procedure. The late Mrs Ali suffered two successful cardiac arrests but succumbed to another on Saturday, leading to her admission and eventual passing on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, in a message read by State Minister for Northern Uganda, Ms. Grace Kwiyucwiny, eulogized Mrs Ali as a disciplined, hardworking, and tolerant woman. Describing her as a peace-loving individual, the Prime Minister emphasized Mrs Ali’s commitment to preaching co-existence in the community.
Sheikh Abujafar Shaban Karala, the district Khadi Arua Muslim District, led the burial prayer, expressing that Mrs Ali exhibited exceptional behavior that guided her husband, Gen Moses Ali. Adjumani town council LCIII chairperson, Mr. Lawrence Mangapi, praised the late Mrs Ali for shaping the vision of many women in the district as a mentor.
