Obongi District is set to receive its first commercial bank, as resolved in a meeting held on Tuesday by several district leaders and the top management of Post Bank. Post Bank has decided to commence operations in Obongi District, becoming the first bank to operate in the area.
The assurance was given by Mr. Patrick Okwi Osakan, the Regional Head of Distribution for Post Bank in Northern Uganda, during a meeting with Obongi District leaders. The attendees included the District Chairperson, Honorable Haji Abib Buga Khemis; the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Leru Andrew; the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka; the Secretary for Gender-Based Services, Honorable Gasia Fatuma; and the Honorable Secretary for Works and Technical Services, Azubu Michael, as well as the Secretary for Production, Jumbo. The meeting took place at the District Chairperson’s office in Obongi District headquarters.
During the meeting, Mr. Okwi revealed that Post Bank has resolved to establish the first commercial bank in Obongi in response to the district leadership’s request. The District Chairperson further disclosed that the Obongi District Council has already allocated land for Post Bank to construct the bank.
In his speech, RDC Hasaka Samuel expressed appreciation to Post Bank for this initiative, emphasizing that it would enhance financial transactions for the residents, benefiting them in various ways. He encouraged the business community, farmers, and government employees to take advantage of Post Bank by opening accounts, reducing the need to travel to other districts for financial services.
Hasaka also urged other banking institutions to follow Post Bank’s example by establishing their branches in Obongi District to better serve their customers.
