The Woman MP of Obongi District, Hon. Maneno Zumura, has handed over 66 mattresses to the best-performing pupils in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Obongi District. Obongi District achieved seven (7) first grades in the 2023 PLE examination.

All seven are Sudanese refugees residing in refugee camps within Obongi District. Each of these seven Sudanese refugees received mattresses. Additionally, 59 Ugandan pupils who attained second grade also received mattresses.

Hon. Maneno Zumura, the Woman MP of Obongi, fulfilled her annual obligation by distributing these mattresses, a pledge made after her election.

She explained that she chose to provide mattresses and scholastic materials to first and second-grade achievers as a means of motivating students to strive for better educational performance in the district. She urged the pupils to continue their education at the secondary level and cautioned them against using the mattresses for marriage purposes.

Zumura Maneno expressed concern over the low standard of education in Obongi, which was among the worst-performing districts in Uganda. She called for collective efforts from parents and teachers to improve the education standard.

The pupils and parents who received mattresses expressed gratitude to the Obongi Woman MP for her kindness and dedication to improving the education standard in Obongi.
