One Killed, 17 Students Injured After Gulu Secondary School Bus Collides Head-On With Truck in Kigumba

KAMPALA, Uganda — A tragic road accident involving a bus belonging to Gulu Secondary School has left one person dead and 17 students injured along the Kiryandongo–Kigumba road in western Uganda.

The accident occurred at around 5:40 a.m. as the school bus was transporting students to Jinja for an educational tour.

According to preliminary reports, the crash happened when the bus driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding head-on with an oncoming Fuso truck traveling in the opposite direction near Kigumba.

The bus conductor reportedly died instantly at the scene of the accident, while 17 students sustained injuries of varying severity. Medical officials said two of the students suffered critical injuries, while 15 sustained minor injuries.

The injured students were rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment and medical attention.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and launched investigations into the exact cause of the accident.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety, particularly involving school transport vehicles and dangerous overtaking on major highways.

More details are expected as authorities continue with investigations and identification of the deceased conductor.
