The Dokolo Woman MP independent candidate, Dr. Lalam Grace Anna Atine, has urged the NRM Secretariat and NRM National Chairman Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta to revise the policy regarding aspirants and NRM flag bearers using their own finances for campaigning.
While addressing members of the press from Dokolo Town Council on Tuesday evening, Grace urged the NRM party secretariat to make it a policy that all candidates contesting under the NRM party must be ready to spend and use their own resources. She suggested that this should also apply to other political parties in the country.
However, Dr. Lalam accuses some aspirants who come to contest under the NRM party of only wanting to be paid in order to opt out of the race. Compensating NRM Party candidates to step down for a flag bearer is not a good policy as it encourages financial greed among incompetent candidates.
She added that all candidates must fund their own campaigns right from primaries to the final election come 2026, and also donate some percentage to support the party’s activities. “Contestants should fund their own campaigns until the end, including the flag bearers of the NRM. This issue of the party secretariat supporting the flag bearer and giving money to aspirants to back off should be abolished by the NRM secretariat and the NRM National Chairman.”
She continued that since this is a national matter, the policy should apply to all political parties in the country. She wants the same to apply to other political parties since some candidates just come because of party money and fail to deliver to the people.
However, she commended H.E. the President for uniting the NRM party, being there for the party, and standing for the party since 1986 up to date. Dr. Lalam is of the view that this should be a guide to the NRM party as a whole.
