Veronica Nanyondo Under Fire for Allegedly Sabotaging Censure Motion

Joel Ssenyonyi, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and MP for Nakawa West, has addressed the public regarding the shocking U-Turn involving Hon Veronica Nanyondo, the Bukomansimbi District Woman MP, in a post shared on X. He clarified that every Tuesday, the Shadow Cabinet holds a meeting, and Hon Nanyondo has never attended any of these meetings because she is not a member of the Shadow Cabinet.

During the latest Shadow Cabinet meeting, Nanyondo was absent, which was expected since she is not part of the group. Ssenyonyi expressed surprise at a letter from Hon Nanyondo claiming she “signed attendance” for a meeting she neither belonged to nor attended. This raised questions about why she would make such a claim.

Additionally, Ssenyonyi addressed the issue of the censure petition, explaining that those who signed it were aware it was a motion to censure the Commissioners of Parliament. He questioned whether Hon Nanyondo simply signed without fully understanding the content of the petition.

In her letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Nanyondo requested to withdraw her signature from the motion to censure the four backbench commissioners of Parliament. She claimed she was misled into signing the motion, believing it was an attendance list for a meeting called by the Leader of the Opposition. Hon Nanyondo emphasized her intention to disassociate herself from the list, stating that she was misled and acted in bad faith.

The letter, dated June 4th, 2024, was received by the Parliament of Uganda. Hon Nanyondo signed off as “Nanyondo Veronica, (M.P) Bukomansimbi.”
