LIRA, Uganda –  The leadership dispute within the Lango Cultural Institution appears far from over, as plans are underway for over 200 elders to flock to State House in Entebbe to voice their grievances to H.E. the President regarding what they term an unfair judgment by Justice Phillips Odoki.

George Ojwang Opota, the chairman of the organizing committee and the clan head of the Omola-Ocol-Odyekonywal Lceng clan, explained that the recent judgment has caused unhappiness in Lango and across Uganda, with many suspecting that the ruling was not made in good faith by Justice Phillips Odoki.

He emphasized that the people of Lango had anticipated a fair process, particularly concerning the election of their paramount chief, Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune.

Ojwang stated that the events surrounding the judgment have led the elders of the Lango Cultural Institution to consult their spirits at Otuke Hills, warning that those who oppose Lango culture would face consequences. He noted that many individuals contributed funds for the coronation, lamenting that all the preparations for the event were wasted.

Peter Okello Oyoo, the clan chief of the Bako Pelko clan and chairperson of the transition committee, assured the people of Lango to remain calm in light of the court’s cancellation of the coronation of the paramount chief, Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune. He called for unity among the Lango people as they plan to meet with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni very soon in Entebbe to express their concerns.

Oyoo pointed out that others seem focused solely on the 60 million shillings meant for cultural leaders. During a media briefing on Sunday, he reiterated that Annet Anite Among has not allowed them the opportunity to meet recently, leading them to view her as an obstacle to a favorable outcome from the court ruling.

He warned that if it is true that Rt. Hon. Speaker Annet Anite Among is responsible, the elders would travel in over 10 buses to State House in Entebbe to present their grievances to the head of state. He further added that the elders from the Lango Cultural Institution plan to conduct rituals on the hill to seek divine guidance in identifying those behind the court ruling.

“Remember, 2026 is approaching, and if the court judgment is not investigated by H.E. the President, you will blame Lango for not voting for NRM,” added Okello Oyoo.

In attendance during the press briefing were members of the Itogo, including Imat Joan Pacotoo, Haji Musa, and Okullu CP, among others. Recently, Justice Odoki issued a court decree nullifying the elections of both Ambassador Ogwang Okul and Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune, while restoring Yosam Odur Ebii as eligible Won Nyaci.
