Oyam district councilors have proposed the creation of a new district out of Oyam district, including four new lower administration units – two new town councils and two sub-counties.

During a full council meeting last week on Wednesday, councilors made the resolution to create ABER district, which will cover the entire Oyam South county that currently has three town councils and five sub-counties.

With the proposal, Adigo sub-county will be created from Loro sub-county, making Aber district have six sub-counties: Loro, Aber, Kamdini, Minakulu, Myene, and Adigo sub-county, along with the town councils of Kamdini, Minakulu, and Loro town council.

In Oyam North county, three lower administration units were proposed for creation: Otwal town council, Ngai town council, and one new sub-county, Okic sub-county, to be carved from Iceme sub-county, respectively.

Nommy Otyeno, the district council speaker of Oyam district local government, says the resolution made will be submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for approval this week on Tuesday.

Oyam district currently has 16 administration units, 12 sub-counties, and 5 town councils.
