Speaker Anitah Among has instructed the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the National Council of Sports (NCS). The focus of the investigation is to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the subleasing of Namboole land to the Pioneer Bus Company.

Among emphasized the importance of understanding how the sublease was obtained, the allocation of funds received by the NCS, and the total revenue generated from the sublease agreement.

During the parliamentary session, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa of Bugiri Municipality proposed a motion suggesting that sports federations be included as consultants and advisors in discussions regarding sports facilities.

However, Sports Minister Peter Ogwang expressed the need to seek legal advice from the Attorney General before implementing Basalirwa’s proposal. Ogwang clarified that the Ministry of Education and Sports has no formal agreement with the Pioneer Bus Company and has instructed the Namboole Board to pursue legal action to remove the buses from the premises.

In response to concerns raised by Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, it was suggested that an interim audit be conducted to assess the funds allocated for the renovation of Namboole Stadium. Mpuuga emphasized the importance of regular updates from the Minister of Sports to Parliament regarding the progress of the renovation until all requirements are met to ensure the stadium’s eligibility for hosting international matches, as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
