Bushenyi, Uganda The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has intensified its contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS, participating in the Empumo Marathon held this morning at Kizinda Playgrounds in Bushenyi District.

The activity forms part of nationwide mobilization efforts ahead of World AIDS Day, which will be commemorated tomorrow, 1st December 2025.

Hon. Mawanda Maranga Michael, the Igara East County Member of Parliament and Director of Mobilisation for PLU, led a team from the organisation’s Western Uganda chapter during the marathon. The event attracted hundreds of participants, all uniting under the shared goal of promoting HIV testing, prevention, and community awareness.

National World AIDS Day celebrations will be hosted at the same venue, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected as the Chief Guest. This year’s theme underscores commitment to ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030, aligning with government and global health targets.

Speaking during the marathon, Hon. Mawanda emphasised the role of community participation in combating the spread of HIV/AIDS. He noted that beyond treatment and access to health services, public education and stigma reduction remain central to winning the fight.

The Patriotic League of Uganda reaffirmed its dedication to ongoing public health advocacy, calling on citizens of Bushenyi and the wider region to prioritize regular testing, prevention and support for people living with HIV.

The Empumo Marathon serves as a timely reminder that sustained collaboration across sectors is essential in achieving an AIDS-free generation.
