São Tomé and Príncipe’s President, Carlos Manuel Vila Nova, embarked on a two-day visit to Uganda, where he toured Nyanza Perch Ltd, a fish processing and export company based in Jinja, Uganda. During the visit, President Vila Nova expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the opportunity to tour the factory, which was led by the Managing Director, Mr. Shahul Hameed.

Nyanza Perch Ltd is known for processing Nile Perch from Lake Victoria and producing approximately 20 tonnes of processed fish daily, resulting in 200 tonnes of finished products per month. The factory exports primarily to European countries such as Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Romania, Turkey, as well as the Middle East and Hong Kong. The company provides direct employment to over 80 individuals and indirectly supports more than 1,000 jobs. Hameed emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable fishery practices to ensure year-round production and maintained their focus on quality to sustain their market presence while adhering to international and domestic fishing regulations.

Nyanza Perch Limited, established in Uganda in May 2018, specializes in fish processing and export, inheriting the facilities of Gomba Fishing Industries Ltd. The company has EU approval and operates under an approved Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system.

President Vila Nova concluded his visit with a tour of Nyanza Textile Industries Limited (Nytil), an integrated textile manufacturing company located in Buikwe District. He was guided through the factory by the company’s General Manager, Vinay Kumar. Throughout these visits, the Presidential delegation included Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Jeje Odongo, and the Director General of External Security Organization (ESO), Ambassador Joseph Ocwet.

After touring Nytil, President Vila Nova departed Uganda following various engagements, including a private meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, and was seen off at Entebbe International Airport by Gen. Jeje Odongo.
