Major General Dick Olum, the Mountain Division Commander, sternly addressed the Local Defence Unit Personnel (LDU), demanding their readiness for service across various operational zones within the Mountain Division. The General delivered his call while presiding over the graduation of more than 461 LDU members who had been undergoing refresher training at the Hima Training School in Kasese District.
During his address, Major General Olum emphasized the need for discipline among the LDUs, stressing its pivotal role in advancing their careers within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces. He also issued a stark warning against any potential desertion, as noted in a UPDF statement.
Furthermore, Major General Olum firmly cautioned the LDU personnel against engaging in reckless lifestyles and urged them to take precautions against HIV/AIDS. He specifically advised female trainees to avoid early pregnancies, emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior.
Colonel Saul Nabimanya, the 222 Brigade Commander, affirmed that the newly graduated LDUs had received comprehensive training, aligned with the operational requirements of the Mountain Division’s area of responsibility. He stated their readiness to be deployed in theater under the jurisdiction of the 222 Mountain Brigade.
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Steven Mugerwa, along with senior and junior officers associated with the Mountain Division.
