(Soroti) – On November 9, 2024, the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Bobi Wine, addressed a large crowd in Soroti after opening the party’s new offices in the city. The rally followed an earlier appearance on 91.5 KVR Radio, where he spoke to the people of Teso, urging them to unite for change.
Despite facing resistance from security forces, who tried to prevent the event from proceeding, Bobi Wine and his team pressed forward with their scheduled activities. In his speech, he focused on the challenges facing the region, particularly the decline of the cotton industry, which he claimed had been deliberately sabotaged by the current government.
Bobi Wine accused the regime of suffocating the cotton sector, which was once a cornerstone of Teso’s economy. He argued that the destruction of the cotton industry had led to widespread poverty, depriving the people of a vital source of income. He reiterated that, if elected, his government would work to revitalize this sector and other key industries that are essential to the region’s growth.
The NUP leader also addressed the issue of corruption, which he said has been a major obstacle to effective service delivery and development. He emphasized the need for a government that prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal gain. “We are committed to ensuring that the people of Teso receive the services they deserve,” he said, calling for an end to the corruption that has stifled progress in the region.
Bobi Wine thanked the people of Soroti for their support and participation in the rally, encouraging them to continue the fight for change. “Eyalama Noi Noi!” he exclaimed, a slogan of encouragement and solidarity.
After the rally, Bobi Wine announced a brief break in the tour before traveling to Kisoro on Monday to continue the NUP’s outreach. He also mentioned that his team would be canvassing support for comrade Sultana Salim (Tana), a candidate in the upcoming elections.
This rally is part of the NUP’s ongoing countrywide tour, aimed at engaging with voters and spreading their message of change.
