Businessman Found Dead in Wakiso Church as Police Probe Case

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that the church management reported the death to the authorities.

Uganda Police are investigating the sudden death of a man found unresponsive in a church in Wakiso District. The deceased, identified as 49 year old Sengiyunva Cyrus, was attending overnight prayers at Crusader Church in Masajja Division when he was discovered unresponsive on the morning of October 4, 2024. Sengiyunva, a businessman from Jaana Village, Bubeke Sub-County in Kalangala District, was part of the congregation when he passed away, though the cause of his death remains unclear.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that the church management reported the death to the authorities. Upon receiving the information, police officers visited the scene to conduct a thorough examination. The body was subsequently transferred to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem to determine the cause of death. Statements from witnesses who attended the prayers were also recorded to assist with the ongoing investigation. Police have stated that further updates will be provided as new information emerges.




In a separate incident in Wakiso, police are also probing a domestic murder case in Ndejje Parish. Maganda Saadi, a resident of the area, confessed to local authorities that he had killed his wife, 20 year old Aliba Faridah, following a domestic altercation. According to the police, Maganda reported the incident to the local Defense Secretary after allegedly stabbing his wife in the neck, causing her instant death.




Following Maganda’s confession, the police responded quickly, securing the crime scene and recovering a blood-stained knife and a stone, which are believed to have been used during the altercation. These items were collected as evidence to support the ongoing investigation. Aliba’s body was also transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem, while police continue to work on establishing the motive behind the killing.




The police have indicated that they are committed to uncovering the facts surrounding both incidents and will continue to share updates as investigations progress.
