A fire incident at Kamuli Girls Primary School in Kamuli, Uganda, is currently under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Services. The school is located in Bukwenge Cell, Sabawali Parish, Kamuli Municipality, Kamuli District.
The incident took place on October 14, 2023, around midnight, affecting one of the dormitories housing 101 P7 candidates. Fortunately, the quick response of the matron ensured the safe evacuation of the students, preventing any harm as the fire continued to spread.
The Fire and Rescue Services managed to successfully extinguish the flames. However, the students’ belongings, including bedding, metal bookcases, and personal items, were all lost in the fire.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from an unoccupied lower bed. A student on the upper bed detected the heat and promptly alerted the matron.
Upon receiving the alert, the matron attempted to use a fire extinguisher to control the fire during its early stages. Despite their efforts, the fire became uncontrollable, prompting a focus on evacuating the students rather than salvaging belongings.
Comprehensive investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of this destructive fire incident.
