Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja addressed Members of Parliament concerning the ongoing delay in implementing the Kasimbi-Kyebando water supply system in Kibaale District. She attributed this delay primarily to funding constraints but reassured that the government remains committed to commencing the implementation as soon as funds become available.

In the fiscal year 2016/17, the Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Water and Environment, initiated the implementation of piped water supply systems in several Small Towns (ST) and Rural Growth Centres (RGC) within Kibaale District. These efforts targeted areas such as Kibaale Town Council, Nyamarunda, Kasimbi, Kyebando, Kyakatwanga, and Nyamarwa.

However, due to financial limitations, a phased approach was adopted for the project implementation. This approach aimed to manage the prevailing financial constraints effectively.

The proposed Kasimbi water supply system was designed to be developed alongside the Kyebando water supply system, both located in the sub-counties of Kasimbi and Kyebando, respectively. This system was projected to serve a population of 31,394 people by the year 2045, with an estimated demand of 1,913,000 litres per day.

In response to funding challenges, the government proposed phased implementation of the water supply system. The initial phase targets a projected population of 18,907 people by 2035. This phase includes the construction of pump stations, water tanks, transmission pipelines, distribution pipelines, consumer points, and supporting facilities such as a water office and public toilets, all estimated to cost sh6.6b.

Prime Minister Nabbanja addressed concerns raised by MP Emely Kugonza regarding the delayed implementation of water projects in the area. She provided insights into the progress of designs and completion timelines for various components of the project.

Looking ahead, PM Nabbanja emphasized the need for continuous planning beyond 2025 to meet the increasing water demand in Kasimbi and Kyebando. This involves sourcing water from River Nkusi at lgayaza, treating it, and pumping it to designated water tanks in the respective sub-counties.

The total cost of construction works for phase II is estimated at sh3.4b. PM Nabbanja highlighted that infrastructure installed under phase I will continue to serve adequately until 2045, ensuring sustainability and meeting future demand.
