Heroic Police Officer Darlington Eiru Laid to Rest in Soroti

Eiru became a well-known figure in 2020 when he assisted a pregnant woman to give birth under challenging conditions at Namanve Industrial Park. The Police had been called to transport the woman to the hospital, but realizing it was too late, Eiru donned gloves and helped her deliver the baby before they were taken to a health facility.

Thousands of mourners gathered in Oderai cell, Soroti city west division, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, to pay their last respects to the heroic Police officer Darlington Eiru. Eiru passed away while being transported to Nsambya Hospital after collapsing at his workplace at Clock Tower, Katwe Police Station, where he served as Officer in Charge.

The Police had been called to transport the woman to the hospital, but realizing it was too late, Eiru donned gloves and helped her deliver the baby before they were taken to a health facility.




East Kyoga Police region commander Damali Nachuha, representing the Inspector General of Police, praised Eiru for his dedication to serving the country and preventing crime. Eiru’s widow, Police officer Sylvia Mutume Eiru, described her husband as a loving and caring man, well-equipped for his duties.




Soroti Anglican Diocese Bishop Emeritus the Rev. George William Erwau, during his sermon, reminded everyone that death is a natural part of life and encouraged Uganda Police Force personnel to follow Eiru’s exemplary deeds. The postmortem report from Mulago Hospital indicated that Eiru died of cardiac arrest and high blood pressure.




Eiru was laid to rest on July 24, 2024, at his ancestral home in Oderai cell.
