Isingiro Man Electrocuted to Death While Cutting Tree Near Live Wires

A 23-year-old man, Karuhanga Silas, lost his life in a tragic incident of electrocution while cutting a tree under a transmission electricity line. The incident occurred at Kyabinunga trading center in Kyabinunga B cell, Kyabinunga Parish, Kagarama sub-county, Isingiro district.

Silas, a casual worker from Mwizi sub-county in Rwampara district, was engaged in tree-cutting work with his colleagues and their boss when the unfortunate event took place. According to Rwizi Police region spokesperson Samson Kasasira, the incident was reported by Rwegasira Jennifer, a 63-year-old farmer who witnessed the tragedy.

On January 11, 2024, at around 12:30 pm, Jennifer, along with the deceased and other workers, saw Silas cut a tree located under transmission electricity wires without using appropriate insulation gadgets. The falling tree made contact with live wires, resulting in electrocution.

Isingiro Police Station responded to the report of sudden death by electrocution, documenting the scene. The body of the deceased was transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
