Local police are currently detaining three individuals over suspicions of pilfering food intended for supporting patients at Kiryandongo Hospital. Jonathan Akweteireho, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner in Kiryandongo, has revealed that the suspects under investigation are two hospital cleaners, Sam Kizito and John Rukalema, alongside hospital security guard Nicodemus Ssenyonjo.

These individuals came under suspicion after being found in possession of Mana, a therapeutic food designated for children suffering from severe malnutrition. Furthermore, it’s alleged that the security guard, Ssenyonjo, facilitated the escape of another suspect identified as Nalongo Poola, resulting in his own arrest.

The authorities have managed to recover numerous sachets of food from the implicated individuals. The scale of the theft suggests a significant breach of trust and disregard for the well-being of patients under the hospital’s care.

Julius Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine Police, has officially confirmed the arrests. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations. The charges brought against the accused include theft and abuse of office, reflecting the severity of their actions and the breach of professional conduct expected from individuals in their positions.
