Bafumbira World, a Kampala-based charity founded in 2016, recently reached out to Gilbert Bugyenimana, a 30-year-old resident of Rukopfe village in Kisoro district.
Gilbert, the youngest of seven children, lives with his elderly mother, Evelyn Niyransekuye (84). Sadly, Gilbert was born with a disability that prevents him from walking. Evelyn shared with The Ankole Times the heartbreak of her dashed hopes for her son to walk alongside his siblings.
Despite the challenges, Evelyn has lovingly cared for Gilbert all his life. Unfortunately, their limited resources prevented him from attending school. Evelyn expressed a heartfelt plea for help with clothing, especially as she ages.
Touched by Gilbert’s story, Bafumbira World representatives Gilbert Nsanzimfura Rwalinda and Phionah Bahungirehe visited the family. The family members were overjoyed to witness Gilbert receive a wheelchair and financial assistance.
Rwalinda explained that Bafumbira World strives to extend a helping hand to deserving individuals across Uganda. They learned about Gilbert’s situation through the area councillor, Irankunda Innocent Kagenza, and quickly identified him as someone in need. He emphasized Bafumbira World’s ongoing commitment to helping those in need.
Bahungirehe commended Evelyn for her unwavering dedication to her son. She acknowledged that many parents neglect children with disabilities, and she applauded Evelyn’s strength and love.
The local councillor, Innocent Irankunda Kagyenza, expressed his gratitude to Bafumbira World for their continued generosity. He urged other parents with children facing similar challenges to treat them with love and equality.
Our Reporter spoke with some family members who also expressed their sincere appreciation for Bafumbira World’s assistance.
