President Yoweri Museveni has praised the late Yorokamu Kamacerere, a former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and deputy headteacher, as a model of incorruptibility and a key figure in Uganda’s liberation struggle. Kamacerere, who passed away on July 26, 2024, at the age of 81, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment and integrity.
Kamacerere served as an RDC in several districts including Kumi, Mbarara, Kasese, Bundibugyo, Rakai, and Mbarara before his retirement in 2001. His career was marked by dedication and a strong sense of duty, which President Museveni highlighted in his tribute. In a message delivered by senior presidential advisor Mary Karooro Okurut, Museveni described Kamacerere as a person who avoided unnecessary drama and remained steadfast in his principles.
The President also urged the public to unite in the fight against corruption, reflecting Kamacerere’s own stance against unethical practices. Despite enduring significant personal hardships and torture, Kamacerere remained loyal to his political beliefs as a supporter of the Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), demonstrating his resilience and commitment.
During the burial service held on July 28, 2024, in Bwatogo cell, Bwatogo ward in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality, West Ankole Diocese Bishop emeritus Yona Katonene paid tribute to Kamacerere, noting his role as an inspiration for young people to pursue education. Kamacerere’s widow shared that he had been struggling with diabetes and a stroke, and remembered him as a loving and supportive family man.
In recognition of Kamacerere’s contributions, President Museveni contributed Shs 10 million towards the burial arrangements.
