Obongi District teachers celebrate Teachers' Day in style with the launch of a Teachers' SACCO and the commissioning of the Teachers' SACCO office.

OBONGI, Uganda – Teachers in Obongi District, under the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNTU), commemorated Teachers’ Day by launching a new teachers’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACC) and commissioning its office.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi generously offered the district headquarters as the office space for the teachers’ SACCO.




Mr. Apiku Osman, the Chairperson of the Obongi Teachers’ SACCO, expressed gratitude to the RDC’s office for their support in mobilizing teachers to join the cooperative and combat poverty.




Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Obongi RDC, along with the Assistant RDC Habiba Furaha Umuhoza, encouraged teachers to contribute to the success of the SACCO by starting income-generating projects.




Furaha emphasized the crucial role teachers play in shaping the minds of learners from childhood to adulthood, commending them for forming the SACCO.

Hashaka advised teachers to explore additional income-generating activities, such as piggery, poultry keeping, goat rearing, and others, in addition to their teaching profession.
