Excitement erupted in Oyam District last Thursday after the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) donated relief food to flood victims in four sub-counties.

This came after a report submitted on September 11, 2024, by Hon. Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku, MP for Oyam North Constituency, detailing the extensive damage caused by the floods in Ngai Sub-county, Iceme Sub-county, Otwal Sub-county, and Abok Sub-county.

The OPM responded by delivering 20 tons of maize flour and 10 tons of dry beans. These supplies were distributed to ensure each household received 25.2 kg of flour and 12.6 kg of beans. The distribution was as follows: Ngai Sub-county (220 households), Iceme Sub-county (304 households), Otwal Sub-county (120 households), Abok Sub-county (149 households).

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Hon. Dr. Apio Otuku and Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang, the Woman MP for Oyam District, for their advocacy, which brought hope to the affected communities.

Hon. Benson Walter Dila Oyuku, the LC5 Chairperson for Oyam District, expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts that culminated in the relief delivery.

Aol Rose, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her happiness by appreciating the Office of the Prime Minister for the donation.

Jimmy Anywar Dolo, the LC3 Chairperson of Ngai Sub-county, reassured the public of his commitment to ensuring the relief reaches the intended beneficiaries.

The floods, which struck unexpectedly, had left many families without food, shelter, and basic necessities. The distribution of relief food has provided a lifeline to the affected households, allowing them to begin rebuilding their lives.
