Police in North Kyoga Region have swiftly responded to and contained a fire outbreak at VH Primary School in Lira City, preventing further escalation and ensuring the safety of all occupants.

Patrick Okema, the spokesperson for North Kyoga Region Police, confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 pm on July 5, 2024. The fire primarily affected two dormitory rooms designated for Primary Six boys, each accommodating about 30 pupils. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite significant damage to property.

“The North Kyoga Region Fire Brigade and Rescue Services were alerted and promptly responded to VH Primary School following a distress call from school management,” Okema stated.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated from a solar-powered connection in one of the dormitory rooms. The quick intervention of emergency responders contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent areas.

“The damage was particularly severe in one of the rooms, where property was extensively affected,” Okema added.

Authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damages incurred by the school management.
