A high-level stakeholders’ engagement meant to strategize on how to mobilize citizens and residents of Mbale City to participate in the National Housing and Population Census 2024 was held today in Mbale City Chambers.
The strategic team assembled for the census included the City Mayor, Mr. Namugali, RCC Mbale, Mr. Rex Acheli, and his deputy RCCs for the respective divisions: Hamza Banga for Industrial Division and Yahaya for Northern Division.
The spokesperson for Inzu Ya Masaba, Mr. Steven Masiga, and police and prison leadership of the Elgon region, along with interreligious council members and representatives of UBOs, Madam Dorcus, and City Planner Mr. Wotsomu were in attendance.
The RCC for Northern Division, Mr. Yahaya, brought to the attention of the committee members some wrong elements who have vowed to disrupt the census exercise.
In response, the Mbale RCC stated that the police already have measures in place to address such behavior in case anybody dares to disrupt the exercise.
Under the UBOS Act 1998, there are sufficient safeguards and penalties in place for anybody found disrupting such a meaningful exercise.
The representatives of Inzu Ya Masaba and the interreligious council pledged to mobilize their respective constituencies to participate in the upcoming census slated for tomorrow.
The Mbale City Mayor instructed police commanders available to ensure there is sufficient deployment to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.
“The population census has enormous benefits to the country, and everyone should participate,” concluded Mr. Kassim Namugali, the Mbale City Mayor, emphasizing the importance of participation in closing the meeting.
