Police Officer Detained After Fatal Shooting at Party
A police officer and a civilian in Hoima district have been detained following a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man.
The incident occurred on July 27, 2024, during a chaotic birthday party in Buraru sub-county. According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson, the officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, fired shots in an attempt to control a violent crowd armed with pangas and knives.
Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck John Mary Wandera, a resident of Nyakihira village, resulting in his immediate death.
The police have arrested both the officer who discharged the firearm and one of the individuals involved in the disturbance.
Hakiza has urged the public to refrain from attacking police officers and advised party organizers to implement proper security measures to prevent such incidents.
