Police authorities in Kisoro have apprehended three individuals suspected to be involved in the murder of Sunday Calist, a 54-year-old teacher residing in Nyakarembe village, Kagunga parish, Bukimbiri Sub-County, Kisoro District.

The incident unfolded during the early hours of February 17 when Gerald Bagyenyi, Ezra Monday, and Thomas Arinaitwe, residents of Birara village, Kagunga parish, Bukimbiri Sub-County, reportedly visited the home of the deceased. They allegedly informed Calist that a fellow resident, Allen Nyirabyiringiro, was critically ill and urgently required medical attention.

In response to the call for assistance, Calist accompanied the suspects to attend to the purported medical emergency. However, suspicions arose when the deceased’s wife, observing the situation, decided to follow them to Ezra Agaba’s residence, approximately 100 meters away, where they claimed a vehicle awaited them. To her shock, she discovered her husband’s lifeless body outside Agaba’s house.

Upon examination of the crime scene, investigators discovered fresh wounds on Calist’s head, indicating a violent assault that led to fatal injuries.

The suspects have since been taken into custody as the investigation progresses to ascertain the motive behind the murder. Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police publicist, confirmed the ongoing inquiry and assured the public of the authorities’ commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
