Vanansio Babweyaka, a renowned business tycoon, has been eulogized by former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda as a man who championed education and supported the needy throughout his life.

Born on October 20, 1949, to Yohana Nyamurya and Evalina Kokyenga in Rwakayundo Cell, Bushuura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda District, Babweyaka was one of seven children—three of whom are still alive: Loy Zaribwende, Rwanzigu Posiano, and Deudanta Gararengana.

He is survived by his wife, Melania Babweyaka; 10 children (three sons and seven daughters); 42 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Notably, he was also an uncle to Libino Byamukama, a journalist with Eye Television and Hope Radio.

It is suspected that Babweyaka succumbed to cancer at Mulago Hospital on Friday, May 16, 2025. He began his career as a designer and tailor before expanding into the timber and hostel businesses. Later, he ventured into tree planting and animal farming.

During the funeral mass held at his ancestral home in Bushuura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda District—where he was laid to rest on May 19, 2025—Dr. Rugunda described Babweyaka as a dedicated philanthropist who supported many in their pursuit of education and was deeply committed to empowering others.

Rugunda also noted Babweyaka’s active involvement in fundraising, including soliciting support from friends in Kampala for the construction of Rwakayundo Catholic Church, his home parish. He urged the public to emulate Babweyaka’s legacy of love and generosity, citing his significant contributions to the community. Rugunda also commended Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba for his leadership in maintaining stability and promoting development.

The family, led by his widow Melania Babweyaka, remembered him as a man who valued unity and always worked to keep the family together.

Rubanda West MP Hon. Kamuntu Moses Mwongyera described the late Babweyaka as an employer of many Ugandans through his various enterprises. LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba praised him for his unwavering love and support for Rubanda District, emphasizing that he remained non-partisan and treated everyone equally, regardless of political affiliation.

During a requiem mass held on the evening of May 18, State Minister for Finance (General Duties) Hon. Henry Musasizi and Parliamentary Commissioner Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy also paid tribute to Babweyaka. They lauded him as a peacemaker and a generous employer who had a positive influence on his community.
