Kisoro’s Mutorele FC Wins Western Zonal Mini League, Advances to Regional League

Mutorele Sports Club yesterday emerged victorious in the Western Zonal Mini League 2024 after securing a 1-0 win over Young Simba FC at Seseme Playground in Kisoro Municipality.

This win has earned them a spot in the Western Regional League, alongside other teams from Kisoro District that include Young Simba FC, Eagles FC, and Mutorele FC. Kabale City FC from Kabale District also qualified.

The competition, which spanned over nine days, saw teams from all districts in the Kigezi sub-region competing fiercely for a chance to represent the region in higher levels of the league.

During the closure of the competition, Mutaremwa Frank, Chairperson of the DFA (District Football Association) Kisoro District, voiced his concern over the lack of political support for sports in the region. He criticized the government’s political wing for not recognizing the potential of sports as a career and an economic avenue, despite its ability to uplift many lives financially.

Meanwhile, Kisoro District LCV Chairman Abel Bizimana expressed the district’s commitment to supporting sports, citing the existence of a dedicated sports department at the local government level. However, he pointed out that limited funding from the central government poses a significant challenge in fully supporting sports initiatives.

Hashakimana Joackim, Kisoro District DFA Secretary and Deputy Speaker of Kisoro Municipality, congratulated the qualifying teams and called for continued support for local football teams to ensure their success in the upcoming regional league stages. He emphasized the importance of unity and collective efforts to elevate the standard of sports in Kisoro District and the wider Kigezi region.

The Kigezi sub-region’s football scene continues to show immense promise, with these young, talented teams poised to represent their districts at the next level of competition.
