Okidi Patrick, Obongi – UNRA has awarded a contract to Universal Construction Company to renovate the Obongi-Kulikulinga road, which had become impassable. The 45 km road connects Obongi to Yumbe, Terego, Arua districts, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The road starts from Obongi landing site to Kulikulinga in Yumbe district. According to the RDC Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the renovation started with the first phase, which includes shaping, while the second phase will include gravelling of 25 km from Obongi landing site up to Okubani, to be completed by July this year. The third phase will involve gravelling another 20 km to Kulikulinga in Yumbe.

The RDC said vehicles currently take 3 hours on a 45 km stretch due to the poor state of the road, and when it rains, vehicles get stuck. Hashaka thanked UNRA for coming to the rescue of road users whose vehicles were breaking down daily.

Many residents have thanked the LCV chairman of Obongi, the woman MP Maneno, and many other leaders who have struggled to solve the problem of the poor road network. A woman identified only as Christine, a 45-year-old from Itula sub-county, described the current leaders of Obongi as unique, hard-working individuals who are responsible for all the fortunate development being realized now in Obongi district.
