The Uganda AIDS Commission is on the brink of a significant development in the fight against HIV. They are eagerly awaiting clearance from the National Drug Authority (NDA) to start importing a groundbreaking HIV injection. This injection is expected to bring a major transformation to HIV prevention efforts in Uganda by providing a potent and accessible alternative to existing methods.

This innovative HIV injection has already been introduced in several countries, including the United States of America, South Africa, Mozambique, and Malawi. Its impending arrival in Uganda has left many Ugandans curious about how this injection works.

Based on data up to December 31, 2021, Uganda witnessed 54,000 new HIV infections, with a noticeable increase in prevalence, especially among women aged 15-19 to 30-34. This data underscores the urgent need for effective prevention methods.

Uganda, in alignment with the global community, aims to halt new HIV infections by 2030. The pending NDA clearance represents a crucial step toward making this cutting-edge treatment option available to the Ugandan population.
