Bushenyi and Rubirizi districts, in response to the recent threat of ADF rebels in Kyamuhanga subcounty in Bushenyi District, have implemented a number of security measures to enhance security in the area.

In Bushenyi District, the District Security Committee has announced that they will be setting up checkpoints along the Mbarara Kasese highway to monitor people traveling from different destinations. This is aimed at identifying any individuals with malicious intent. These security measures will not be limited to highways; they will also extend to places like nightclubs, bars, and churches, with the goal of preventing unrestricted movement. The District has already communicated with the second division commander in Mbarara, who has stationed troops at the Bushenyi District headquarters to support these efforts.

The Bushenyi District RDC, Mr. Robert Atuhairwe, has also emphasized the importance of local leaders registering all residents and visitors as a way to keep track of everyone in the District. Public events and gatherings will require clearance from the RDC’s office to prevent security interference.

In Rubirizi District, the District RDC, Mr. Bron Kikanshemeza, has announced that his district will also be implementing checkpoints at entry points to monitor individuals moving in and out. He has emphasized the need for people to carry identification documents such as IDs, driving licenses, work permits, or letters from LC one chairpersons or DISO to verify their identity.

The spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, Marcial Tumusiime, has mentioned that the police, army, and other security agencies are conducting operations in the District to maintain peace. He has urged local residents to collaborate with security agencies to help prevent any undesirable elements from entering their areas.

These security measures come in response to the recent discovery of threatening leaflets from ADF rebels in Kyamuhanga subcounty in Bushenyi District. The ADF is a Ugandan rebel group that has been responsible for a number of attacks in Uganda and neighboring countries in recent years.

The enhanced security measures in Bushenyi and Rubirizi districts are intended to deter and prevent any further attacks by the ADF or other terrorist groups. The cooperation of local residents is essential to the success of these efforts.
