In a collaborative effort between the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), a significant breakthrough was achieved in the fight against terrorism. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, a cache of weapons belonging to the Allied Democratic Force (ADF) terrorists was successfully recovered.
The operation took place in Sector 3, near the River Talia Bridge, situated in the North Kivu Province of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Led by Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer of the UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, the joint forces executed an intelligence-led operation to locate and secure the hidden arsenal.
During the operation, a variety of weapons were seized, including one piece of a 160mm mortar, two rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) launchers, one RPG shell, one submachine gun (SMG), seven rounds of PKM ammunition, and one round of SMGs. These weapons are believed to have been concealed by the fleeing ADF rebels approximately mid-last year, following their expulsion from the Mwalika Valley.
In a related development, the joint forces reported the neutralization of one ADF terrorist and the recovery of an additional SMG on May 7, 2024. This incident occurred in the general vicinity of Masizi, approximately 10 kilometers northwest of Boga, situated in the Ituri province within Sector 2 under the command of Colonel Jackson Kayanja.
