Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of Land Forces, has urged officers in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to manage resources responsibly. He stressed that proper management is essential for the UPDF to carry out its constitutional duties and mission effectively.
Handover Ceremony
Lt Gen Muhanga made these comments during the handover ceremony for the Chief of Staff – Land Forces at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo. At this event, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, the outgoing Chief of Staff – Land Forces, handed over his position to Brig Gen Michael Kabango.
Consequences of Mismanagement
The Commander highlighted that poor management of resources can lead to significant issues in command and disrupt the daily activities of the army. He warned that officers who mismanage resources would be held accountable by the UPDF leadership and Parliament, which is responsible for allocating these resources.
Gratitude from Outgoing Officer
Maj Gen Bakasumba expressed his gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the opportunity to serve and for their support. He stated, “I will indeed remain indebted for all the guidance and support rendered to me in the execution of my duties.”
Incoming Officer’s Commitment
Brig Gen Kabango, the new Chief of Staff – Land Forces, thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with this role. He also expressed appreciation to his predecessor for his mentorship and guidance.
