Kainerugaba Meets DRC Counterpart for ADF Combat

Yesterday afternoon, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), met with General Christian Tshiwewe Songesha In Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). General Songesha is the General Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC). They met in the town of Kasindi.

High-ranking officials from UPDF attended this meeting. Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, who is the Commander Land Force, and Major General Dick Olum, who is the Commander of Operation Shujaa, were among them. From the FARDC side, there were also top Generals.




This meeting was part of regular discussions between UPDF and FARDC. They discussed the progress of Operation Shujaa. This operation started after Uganda and the DRC made agreements in 2021.




During the meeting in Kasindi, General Kainerugaba praised Operation Shujaa. He said it was an excellent example of African countries working together. They were working together to deal with common issues, particularly fighting against the ADF terrorist threat. He thanked the leaders of Uganda and the DRC for starting this initiative. He also stressed the long-lasting relationship between the two countries. He emphasized the role of UPDF and FARDC in keeping peaceful coexistence.




General Kainerugaba is also the Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations. He thanked his DRC counterpart for the warm welcome. He acknowledged his leadership in making the operation successful.

He talked about the progress they made in weakening the ADF terrorists. He mentioned the many terrorists they killed, captured, or surrendered. General Songesha also appreciated General Muhoozi for his recent appointment as the CDF. He praised the joint efforts of UPDF and FARDC in fighting the common enemy, the ADF.
