The Minister of State for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs, Hon. Huda Abason Oleru, expressed commendation for retiring senior officers, acknowledging their dedicated service to Uganda, starting from the NRA struggle through their careers in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces. The accolades came during the closure of the 5-day sensitization and documentation exercise for 159 of the 162 retiring Senior Officers at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy in Jinja.

Hon. Oleru lauded the retiring officers for their selfless commitment to the country, emphasizing their valor in taking up arms during critical times without concern for payment but driven solely by a sense of self-sacrifice. She expressed gratitude for their significant role in maintaining peace in Uganda, attributing the nation’s current tranquility to their patriotic service, which she described as yielding positive outcomes.

Acknowledging the Commander-in-Chief’s role, Hon. Oleru appreciated the creation of a Directorate specifically addressing veterans’ needs, encompassing aspects from pension payments to full reintegration. She urged the retirees to prioritize their health and utilize military hospitals for proper care. Cautioning against engaging in activities without proper research, she emphasized the importance of safeguarding their hard-earned pension remuneration.
