(Magamaga) – Brigadier General Michael Nyarwa, Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Marine Brigade, has called on newly graduated marines to uphold discipline and loyalty as they begin their duties. Speaking at a pass-out ceremony held at the Ntokolo Marine Training Base in Magamaga, Brig Gen Nyarwa highlighted the importance of rigorous training in building a skilled, operationally ready force.
The ceremony marked the successful completion of a four-month Marine Basic Induction Course for 53 soldiers. Brig Gen Nyarwa commended the soldiers for their perseverance and dedication throughout the demanding training process. “You have been equipped with techniques grounded in character, loyalty, discipline, and endurance. Now, your services are urgently needed to safeguard Uganda as mandated by law. Go and perform with commitment,” he advised, encouraging the graduates to bring dedication and integrity to their roles.
According to Lt Col Kararra, Commandant of the Marine Training School, the training course was designed to address manpower needs and prepare soldiers for the demands of marine combat. The program also focused on enhancing the recruits’ leadership abilities and maritime skills, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the unique challenges of marine operations.
Mayuge Resident District Commissioner Thomas Matende also expressed confidence in the capabilities of the UPDF, emphasizing the valuable role the new marines will play in community protection. “The unique skills displayed here assure us that the UPDF is capable and ready to safeguard our nation,” he said, noting the importance of the UPDF’s ongoing commitment to national security.
